Awards and Honors
     Skills
Home Environment

• Listening -- Experiences with the Initial Client Meeting for an interior

design job taught me that it is imperative that a good

interior designer listens to what a client's wants/needs

and not focus on what the designer wants

• Budgeting -- Managing a $10,000 remodeling budget for a client

reminded me that it's not my money; I need carefully

work within my client's set budget to ensure that costs

                           are not exceeded

• Ethics -- being upfront and forthcoming about all aspects of the

project (good and bad) are crucial to building client trust,

                  loyalty and long-term business success

Leadership

• Brainstorming -- using two (2) new tools that I learned through 4-H --

brain writing and the Charette procedure -- I am

now able to help groups come up with effective

solutions that everyone can agree upon

• Parliamentary Procedure -- mastering this meeting tool has enabled

me to effectively and efficiently lead 14

meetings to accomplish the set agenda

                                                       items in a timely fashion

• Teaching -- organizing the subject-matter skills I have learned from

my summer interior design internship into two (2) lesson

plans and four (4) activities that can be shared with my

interior design judging team members better prepared

                        them for competition.

Citizenship

• Up-cycling -- completing seven (7) furniture up-cycling projects

provided "new to you" furniture for others while

                           conserving the environment.

• Patience -- working with and for the benefit of others in my

community has taught me the importance of patience as

large projects take time to get off the ground -- but once

they do -- they can be awesome!  I have spent 88 hours

over the last three (3) years working on various

                        community service projects.

• Value of Family and Friends -- interacting with those in my

                                                            neighborhood who have no friends

or family to lean on has taught me to

recognize and be thankful for those

                                                            persons in my life
